Bolton’s Nigerian international playmaker Jay-Jay Okocha hinted on Sunday he could consider a move away from the Premiership side when his contract ends in June.
The 30-year-old, who joined Bolton in 2002 from French giants Paris Saint Germain, claims he is open to offers after he returns from Tunisia where he is playing in the African Nations Cup.
”If I get any other good deal I might consider it,” he told BBC Radio Five Live on Sunday.
”I can’t wait for them (Bolton) until the end of the season to make a decision. I have to be looking at other places.”
Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has said that he may face problems in resigning Okocha — who has been linked with Arsenal and Spurs — as his wage demands could prove to be too expensive.
”We will start with Jay-Jay but he may be too expensive,” Allardyce said last week.
”The board of directors will decide that not me. They are in charge of the spending.”
Okocha is trying to concentrate on helping his side reach the competition’s quarter finals.
However Nigeria have been more newsworthy for their off-the-field problems rather than their results, which included a 1-0 defeat to Morocco and a 4-0 hammering of South Africa on Saturday in which he scored the 1 000th goal in the competition’s history.
Team officials sent home three players — Chelsea’s Celestine Babayaro, Portsmouth striker Yakubu Ayegbeni and Schalke 04 star Victor Agali — as a result of alleged indiscipline. ”I think it was a hard decision,” Okocha said.
”Sometimes we all make mistakes. It’s like they have been waiting for people to make mistakes and they were unlucky to be the ones.” – Sapa-AFP
