Oil prices ease after record high

Oil prices eased on Friday, a day after rocketing to the highest close with markets fretting about terrorism fears in the Middle East and tight stocks of United States gasoline.

The price of benchmark Brent North Sea crude oil for June delivery fell 11 cents to $38,38 in early London trading, a day after closing at its highest level since October 1990, when Iraq invaded Kuwait.

New York’s reference light sweet crude for June delivery lost 13 cents to $40,95 in pre-opening electronic deals.

On Thursday, New York’s main crude oil contract rose 31 cents to $41,08 per barrel for a second successive record closing high. — Sapa-AFP
