Over the past 12 months, “jobs” has surpassed “sex” as the most-searched word on South African internet search engine Ananzi. However, in April the most searched word was “IEC”, according to an Ananzi statement on Wednesday.
“We are excited at this result because it shows that Ananzi is becoming more mainstream and that more people are accessing the internet for information,” said Mark Buwalda, managing director of Ananzi.
“There is no easier way to reach a large mass of people on a one-to-one basis than through the internet.
“Political parties advertise on street poles and have websites, but they have not really taken advantage of advertising on search engines as a way of getting their message across and interacting with the people who vote for them,” said Buwalda.
Ananzi started life as South Africa’s original internet search engine and has become one of the country’s premier search portals, comprising a search engine, directory service, e-mail, a shopping site and content zones.
