Reunert’s Saco in library technology deal

South African electronics company Reunert’s wholly-owned subsidiary Saco Systems has concluded a deal with British company Intellident to promote and deliver the latest technology in “smart label” RFID library solutions for the Southern Africa market, Reunert announced on Monday.

Established in 1975, Saco is an RFID systems integrator and a dominant player in Southern Africa’s market. The company designs and supplies tag, track and trace solutions to a number of industries.

In terms of the agreement, Saco will have exclusive distribution rights for all Intellident RFID library solution products in sub-Saharan Africa.

This market is estimated to be worth more than R300-million over the next five to 10 years.

“The Intellident Library Solution is an exciting range of products that replaces the barcode-dependent ‘front end’ of traditional library management systems, offering a radically new concept in data capture and security,” Reunert said.

Intellident commercial development director Simon Howell said: “The exclusive distribution agreement between the two companies demonstrates our joint commitment to working in the South African market and we look forward to working with Saco to further deploy and develop our range of library solutions.”

“We are keen to introduce this technology to our market as it has so much to offer in terms of efficiency and customer care. The benefits are immediate and cost effective,” Saco sales and marketing director Des Oliver said.

The dual-function — which consist memory and security — smart levels are paper-thin electronic devices containing a small microchip. The device is powered by harmless radio waves.

These smart labels can be adhered to books, digital versatile disks, video and CD cases and will allow libraries to expedite check-in and issue processes while also improving shelf inventory control. — I-Net Bridge
