Another Sasol blast victim dies

Another victim of the September 1 blast at Sasol’s Secunda plant has died, bringing the death toll to nine, a company spokesperson said on Tuesday.

The man died in hospital earlier in the day after two weeks in intensive care, Johan van Rheede said.

His name will be withheld until his family had been informed, but Van Rheede said the man was a Sasol employee.

At least 100 people were injured during the blast at the company’s ethylene plant.

A preliminary investigation into the cause has been completed by the Department of Labour, but it will not be made public. — Sapa
