A 72-year old Malaysian man took his marriage vows for the 53rd time in his life, this time with his newest bride – his first ex-wife, reports said on Tuesday.
Kamarudin Mohammad tied the knot with Khadijah Udin, 74, his former sweetheart and ex-wife, on Sunday in the northern Kelantan state, the New Straits Times reported.
The pair were first married in 1957, but divorced several years later.
AllKamarudin’s previous marriages ended in divorce except for wife number 52, who died of breast cancer.
”My shortest marriage lasted for two days several years ago and the longest was with my last wife, a Thai woman from Songkhla, whom I was married to for 20 years,” the new groom told the daily.
”After she died, I thought of Khadijah and sent several people to ask for her hand in marriage. I did not expect her to accept
it.”
Khadijah, who herself had married three times, said she accepted her former ex-husband’s offer to remarry as she was now a widow.
”Kamarudin also promised to look after me until the end of our lives and said he did not want to continue his habit of marrying repeatedly,” she said.
Moslem men are allowed to take up to four wives at any one time, but are not limited to the number of times they marry and divorce as long as they can provide some form of financial support to their estranged spouses and families. – Sapa
