England flyhalf Charlie Hodgson scored all but five of England’s points in a 32-16 victory over South Africa in a rugby union international at Twickenham on Saturday.
Hodgson only converted two of his seven kicks in England’s 70-0 beating of Canada last week. He didn’t have any problems on Saturday, with a 100% record as England beat the Springboks for the sixth time in a row.
Hodgson scored the opening try under the posts after getting through three tackles. Ten minutes later, England went over again with Henry Paul’s cross-field kick finding winger Mark Cueto alone in space.
Cueto caught the ball and touched down for his second try in his second England match.
Hodgson converted both and added three penalty kicks in this meeting of the World Cup holder and the Tri-Nations champion.
South Africa’s only first-half points were through two Percy Montgomery penalties.
Montgomery added a third penalty early in the second half before Hodgson scored two penalties and a drop goal.
Hodgson, playing in place of injured captain Jonny Wilkinson, gave England a 32-9 lead with his sixth penalty.
South Africa finally crossed in the 73rd minute, with Bryan Habana breaking through the England line to score on his debut shortly after coming on as a replacement.
