Clairvoyants track down fugitive general

European soothsayers have thrown their weight behind United Nations prosecutors in their stand-off with the Croatian government over fugitive war crimes suspect Ante Gotovina, saying he is hiding in or near Croatian territory, a report said on Wednesday.

Five clairvoyants consulted by the Globus weekly said Gotovina, wanted for alleged atrocities against ethnic Serbs at the end of Croatia’s 1991-1995 conflict, is staying close to home despite Zagreb’s claims that he has fled without a trace.

Zagreb’s refusal to transfer the fugitive to The Hague is likely to delay the start of European Union accession talks set for Thursday.

“I believe that General Gotovina is still in central Europe, moving in that region, but not much,” Uri Geller, a famous but controversial psychic who lives in Britain, told the weekly.

Feeling the vibes from photographs of Gotovina and maps of the region, Geller declared: “Part of his time, he is successfully hiding in Croatia.”

Lav Gersman, a Ukrainian parapsychologist living in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, went even further, saying the general has friends in high places but he is short of cash.

“Gotovina is in downtown Zagreb. As soon as an action to detain him is under way, Gotovina is informed about it and he changes residence,” he said. “He didn’t escape to a faraway country because currently he doesn’t have money to do that.”

Bosnian clairvoyant Mevludin Duvancic is also convinced that Gotovina is in Croatia — “often on the Adriatic coast but also in Zagreb”.

Bulgarian psychic Bojka Peneva also saw the ex-general south or south-west of Zagreb, “near the sea”.

“I’m not sure if he is in Croatia but he’s definitely not in Italy,” she said.

Anna Doniec, a Polish clairvoyant, waved a plum over a picture of Gotovina and sensed his presence outside Croatia.

“During the past few years, he has been in Croatia. He is nearby but not in the country,” she was quoted as saying.

Zagreb has repeatedly claimed it has no knowledge of the fugitive’s whereabouts. — AFP
