Another boost from SA for tsunami relief

Almost R700 000 was given to the South African Red Cross towards the tsunami relief fund by the South African Jewish Board of Deputies in Pretoria on Tuesday.

A cheque for R667 980,80 was presented to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aziz Pahad and South African Red Cross chairperson Mandisa Kalako-Williams at the Union Buildings.

Pahad said the donation was yet another reflection of the South African people’s commitment to helping those in need.

”We are proud as Jewish people to be part of South Africa where people care about those in suffering halfway around the world,” said Zev Krengel on behalf of the board.

Kalako-Williams said although R20-million has already been sent to the international account for tsunami relief, more donations are needed now for the recovery phase. — Sapa
