Chiefs drop two points

Chiefs dropped two valuable points when they held Lamontville Golden Arrows to a 1-1 draw in an entertaining Castle Premiership encounter played at Kings Park Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The home side led 1-0 at the interval thanks to a goal by Bheka Phakathi in the 38th minute — this after receiving a pass from Mabhuti Khanyeza, who earlier had squandered a number of scoring chances.

In the 51st minute, the Chiefs bench introduced Jabulani Mendu for Collins ”Ntofontofo” Mbesuma, but it was David Radebe who scored the equaliser in the 57th much to the delight of the Chiefs supporters.

Radebe scored from a rebound after Arrows goalkeeper Davies Phiri failed to hold on to John ”Shoes” Moshoeu’s powerful strike.

Chiefs pushed forward in numbers after this goal in search for a winner, but were let down by their strikers. In the 60th minute, Phiri did well to stop Thabo Mooki’s powerful shot taken just outside the penalty box.

However, Arrows were unlucky not to regain their lead in the 68th minute when Mabhuti’s shot went wide.

A minute later, Shoes got a good chance to put Chiefs in the lead for the first time in this game, but his shot went wide after rounding Phiri.

In the 83rd minute, Shoes headed over the bar after connecting Arthur ”10111” Zwane’s well-taken corner kick. Zwane was named man of the match for his efforts.

Chiefs now move to second on the log while Abafana Besthende are eighth. — Sapa
