Chiefs close the gap on Bucs

Kaizer Chiefs closed the gap between them and table-topping Orlando Pirates when they beat Wits University 1-0 in a PSL game played at Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg on Tuesday.

There was no score at half-time.

Both teams started the game at a frenetic pace, but it was Chiefs who threatened the Wits goal as the ”Clever Boys” reverted to a more defensive mode. Chiefs’ John ”Shoes” Moshoeu should have put his side ahead five minutes before the break after receiving a neat pass from striker David Radebe, but Moshoeu stuck the ball into the side net.

Chiefs coach Ted Dumitru made tactical changes in the second half and it paid dividends, albeit in the dying minutes of the game, when Chiefs midfielder Gerald Sibeko was brought down in the box by Wits goalkeeper Wayne Roberts. Chiefs top goal scorer Collins Mbesuma stepped up and made no mistake.

Chiefs are now just three points adrift of Pirates, although the log leaders do have a game in hand. – Sapa
