England skipper David Beckham said he is ”amazed” and finds it ”incredible” that his family’s former nanny sold a story making claims about his marriage to a Sunday tabloid newspaper.
The Real Madrid player and his wife, Victoria, have already admitted they plan to sue the former nanny Abbie Gibson for breach of confidence after the allegations were made in The News of the World at the weekend.
”When someone talks of selling a story to the newspapers, I find it incredible,” Beckham told reporters here on Wednesday.
”I can’t understand that can happen when you invite someone to your place to take care of your children, who are the most important thing for you. You need to trust them and I find it incredible that later they want to sell their story.
”But I can’t say much about it because there’s a legal case. I’m able to focus on football because my wife and I are normal people.
”Of course we argue, but I love her a lot and my parents taught me from when I was little how to treat women. If I didn’t, my mum would come and have a terrible go at me. Really, we’re very happy and we love each other a lot.”
The 29-year-old also insisted that he had never been happier in Madrid and was ready to see out his career in the Spanish capital.
Beckham believes that he is in the best form of his life, and the fact that his family have settled in Spain has contributed to this.
”I’m very happy with my football and I feel better than ever,” said Beckham.
”I feel great and my fitness is great — it has been for the last two or three months and probably it’s the best it’s been for a long time.
”I’ve said many times that I’m very happy in Madrid. My family are happy in Madrid. The children and my wife are very happy and all that helps.
”I have two years left on my contract and I want to finish my career playing football for Real Madrid.”
Beckham, who had fitness problems earlier in the season, put his return to form down to coach Wanderley Luxemburgo.
”Ever since he arrived he’s worked us very hard,” said Beckham.
”That’s been good for me and good for my fitness and the team.
There is a lot of work and there is a lot of confidence.”
Beckham has not won a major title with Real after nearly two seasons, but they have an outside chance of overtaking leaders Barcelona, who have a six point advantage.
”It’s very important for Real Madrid to win all of our games, but if Barca keep on winning we can’t do anything. I don’t know where Barca are going to slip up, they are playing very well,” added Beckham. – Sapa-AFP
