Anglo Zimele empowers rubber firm

Anglo Zimele, Anglo American’s empowerment initiative, has acquired a 10% stake in Specialised Rubber and Industrial worth R2,5-million, Anglo Zimele said on Monday.

The transaction would see Anglo Zimele and Hira Heritage Trust empowering Specialised Rubber and Industrial.

”We are proud to announce that Anglo Zimele has acquired a 10% stake, valued at R2,5-million, in Specialised Rubber and Industrial, representing both our largest investment and the largest deal, which is valued at R25-million,” said Anglo Zimele

chairperson Godfrey Gomwe.

Specialised Rubber and Industrial manufactures a diverse range of rubber and industrial products, including flexible metallic hoses, for the mining, industrial and materials handling sectors.

It currently enjoys an annual turnover of around R90-million, and employs 150 people at its Alrode and Brakpan sites.

Hira Heritage Trust, the black empowerment entity, has acquired 26% in the company. The trust was formed to encompass the business holdings of husband and wife, Harry Bhagwandas and Vasanti Hira.

Hira, an existing shareholder, holds a five percent stake in the company, bringing the empowerment shareholding to an effective 31%.

The existing management and shareholders, through Specialised Holdings, retain a 64% stake. – Sapa
