The National Union of Mineworkers and Northam Platinum have settled their wage dispute, the union said on Thursday.
They agreed to a wage increase of between seven and eight percent, and a living-out allowance of R1 000.
”I’m glad the process is finally over because for a while it seemed as if we were not getting anywhere. We have settled the wages and the living out allowance matters, ensuring improvements for workers on these matters,” said NUM’s chief negotiator at Northam, Titi Mthenjane.
The union had initially demanded a 10% wage increase across the board and a living-out allowance of R1 500. The company at the time was offering an increase of four percent.
The union declared a dispute with company in July and referred the matter to the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration. The parties reached agreement on Tuesday. – Sapa
