Cappa is no angel, rules PSL

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) disciplinary committee have ruled he is no angel and fined Mamelodi Sundowns’ Argentinian coach, Angel Cappa, a whopping R50 000 for his role in a fracas with Supersport United coach Pitso Mosimane during the red-hot recent Pretoria PSL derby at Loftus Versfeld.

Mosimane was fined R50 000 last week for his part in the same incident during the 2-2 draw between the intense rivals. The newly appointed Bafana Bafana assistant caretaker coach made a humble public apology immediately afterwards.

Cappa’s request for a postponement was granted, but he was ordered to pay the costs of the reconvened hearing.

Nevertheless, the severity of Cappa’s fine has come as a shock to most observers, as Mosimane apparently instigated the off-the-pitch incident after Peter Ndlovu (Sundowns) and Calvin Marlin (Supersport) had clashed on the field.

”This is lop-sided justice,” said one official, ”and once again the PSL disciplinary committee has bungled a decision and mishandled what should have been a pretty straight-forward case.

”Certainly both coaches were guilty and deserve to be punished, but it is ludicrous to give Mosimane and Cappa the identical fine when one was clearly guiltier than the other — and the Supersport coach has apologised for his provocative behaviour.” — Sapa
