A Tygerberg hospital minibus used to transport patients has been hijacked, Cape Town police said on Saturday.
The Toyota Hi-Ace minibus, fitted to transport outpatients, was on its way from Tygerberg hospital to Eersteriver hospital with a passenger just after noon.
”On the corner of Kleinvlei Avenue and Hidalgo Street [in the area of Kleinvlei], an unknown man got into the vehicle on the passenger’s side. The suspect stabbed the driver [a 31-year-old man from D Section, Khayelitsha] once in the left upper arm and demanded the driver drive in the direction of Khayelitsha,” police spokesperson Inspector Bernadine Steyn said.
On the corner of Daskop and Old Faure roads, in the area of Mfuleni, he demanded the driver and the passenger get out of the vehicle.
He then drove off in the direction of Khayelitsha.
Both driver and passenger were taken to hospital.
At approximately 3.15pm, the vehicle was retrieved by police at a house in Ilitapark, Lingulethu West. Nobody was immediately arrested. — Sapa
