Angola is to draw up measures designed to prevent an outbreak of bird flu, which has been officially declared in three African nations, according to a parliamentary decree released on Wednesday.
A committee of experts from the military, health sectors and government organisations has been set up to chart a programme of action.
The measures will include monitoring and testing poultry and other birds, importing the equipment needed for a cull of infected birds if outbreaks of bird flu occur, and launching a nationwide information campaign.
Two months ago, Angola stopped imports of birds from Nigeria and European nations where the virus has surfaced.
Nigeria was the first country in Africa to confirm the presence of bird flu. Since then it has also been detected in Niger and Egypt. — Sapa-AFP
