Cosmos trounce Amazulu 2-0

Jomo Cosmos recorded a 2-0 win over Amazulu in their opening Premier Soccer League match at the Huntersfield Stadium near Katlehong on Sunday. Cosmos led 1-0 at the break. Cosmos striker Chris Katango was the man with the golden boot — scoring a goal in each half — to ensure his team collected maximum points..

Debutantes Benoni Premier United shared the spoils with Ajax Cape Town in their match, which was played at the Germiston Stadium. Ajax went into the interval with a one goal lead thanks to the boot of Mfundo Shumana, who slotted home two minutes before the break.

Benoni never gave up taking the fight to Ajax in search of the equaliser.

The ”Rabbits” were justly rewarded for their efforts with striker July Mahlangu netting in optional time after a goal-mouth scramble.

Meanwhile, a partisan crowd watched Silver Stars win their encounter 1-0 against Golden Arrows at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium near Rustenburg.

There was no score at the interval.

The home side were in control throughout but failed to penetrate Arrow’s defences. The pressure proved to be to much, however, and mid-fielder Dingaan Masanabo struck with the clock showing three minutes to go.

In Maritzburg, newcomers Bidvest Wits managed to steal a point after they held Maritzburg United to a goalless draw at the Woodburn Stadium. – Sapa
