Prosecutor attacked, stabbed at court

A senior control prosecutor was attacked and stabbed in her office in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Inspector Anton Breedt said the woman was working in her office when a man came in and stabbed her with a knife, before fleeing with her cellphone.

”She managed to scream while being attacked and the noise was heard by police officers stationed as orderlies in a nearby court room who cornered the man and arrested him,” Breedt said.

Police found a cellphone and knife in the possession of the man, believed to be in his early thirties.

He was immediately charged with attempted murder but more charges might be added, Breedt said.

The prosecutor was in a ”stable” condition in the Muelmed hospital on Monday afternoon.

Hospital spokesperson Johan Dednam said the woman was being kept in the intensive care unit and she was in a stable condition. — Sapa
