South Africa have recalled former captain Sibusiso Zuma and winger Delron Buckley for Sunday’s African Nations Cup qualifier against Zambia.
Caretaker coach Pitso Mosimane has also called up uncapped striker Moses Spandeel for the group 11 clash in Lusaka, the South African Football Association said on Monday.
Zuma scored for his German club Arminia Bielefed on Saturday on his return after a lengthy injury lay-off and comes into the squad after the withdrawal of Glen Salmon of Dutch club FC Groningen.
Buckley, who recently moved on loan to Swiss club Basel, replaces injured Dillon Shepard while the Bloemfontein Celtic striker Spandeel comes in for injured Siyabonga Nomvete.
Zuma last played for South Africa at the Nations Cup finals in Egypt in January while the last of Buckley’s 60 caps came in a friendly against Germany in September last year.
Zambia can open up a five point lead over 2010 World Cup finalists South Africa in their qualifying group if they win Sunday’s match. — Reuters
