Santos, Ajax share the spoils

Ajax Cape Town came from behind to share the spoils with Santos in their Cape Town Premier Soccer League derby at the Greenpoint Stadium on Saturday. The game ended 1-1.

Santos blew their chances of collecting full points when Byron Hendricks was sent off in the first half. They were leading 1-0 at that stage through a goal by Erwin Isaacs.

Hendricks was penalised for a foul for which he got a yellow card, but then had words with referee Peter Mabuza and duly got his second yellow, which meant a red card.

Veteran Santos defender Edries Burton was also booked for questioning Mabuza for Hendricks’s send-off.

Ajax defender Nazeer Allie was booked earlier on for a foul on Jonathon Armogam.

Ajax, though, equalised midway through the second half when Russell Mwafulirwa scored after Santos goalkeeper Brendan Wardle punched out the initial shot from Franklin Cale.

Santos strongman Sebastian Bax and Cale also found their way into Mabuza’s book for an assortment of transgressions of football laws. — Sapa
