No one has been arrested for the murder of Avhatakali Netshisaulu, son of City Press editor Mathatha Tsedu, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.
Director Govindsamy Mariemuthoo said investigations are continuing but no arrests have been made. The results of a post-mortem conducted cannot be revealed as they form part of the investigation, he said.
”We are still waiting for some results but we cannot reveal results because they form part of the investigation.”
Funeral arrangements for Netshisaulu have not yet been finalised but a memorial service will be held on Thursday at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) offices in Auckland Park, Johannesburg.
Shortly after the death of his 30-year-old son, Tsedu told the SABC he believed police could have done more to save his son’s life.
Netshisaulu was found burnt beyond recognition in the boot of his Volkswagen Golf in a field at Nooitgedacht near Muldersdrift last Thursday.
The chartered accountant left North Riding for a meeting in Honeydew at 8pm. On the way there he phoned his wife, Mulalo, to tell her he thought he was being hijacked.
His wife called the police, to no avail. She later searched the area, accompanied by a family member.
Police and emergency workers later found a car on fire, extinguished the blaze and discovered a body in the boot. Mulalo identified the car as her husband’s when she arrived on the scene while out looking for him. — Sapa
