Parreira grounded by power failure

New Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira was all pumped up and ready to start his R1,8-million-a-month job, only for his bosses to tell him not to bother due to a power cut, the Star reported on Tuesday.

A power failure around the Nasrec area on Monday meant Parreira couldn’t report for his first day on the job at the South African Football Association’s (Safa) FNB Stadium headquarters, forcing him to work from his Sandton hotel instead, the Johannesburg newspaper said.

Well he might, as Parreira earned his high salary for his day’s ”work” on Monday, without needing to set foot in the office.

Parreira instead used the opportunity to view more apartments in Johannesburg’s northern suburbs before returning to his hotel room to prepare for the national team camp, starting on Monday. – Sapa
