Sunday Times journalist David Bullard is ”doing very well” and may be moved out of the Milpark Hospital’s intensive-care unit, a hospital spokesperson said on Friday.
”He is doing very well and we are hoping to move him out of intensive care later today,” said Amelda Swartz.
She said Bullard had requested some peace and quiet after being overwhelmed by media attention after the shooting on Thursday.
Bullard (55) was shot and wounded during a burglary at his Parktown North home on Wednesday night.
Johannesburg police spokesperson Captain Cheryl Engelbrecht said on Friday the incident was being investigated and no arrests had yet been made.
Two men had gained access to Bullard’s home through a bedroom window.
It appeared that Bullard’s wife, Jacqueline, was taken up to the bedroom by one of the robbers when a shot went off. The columnist was shot once, with the bullet going through his arm and into his abdomen.
The two men then fled though the same window, taking a handbag and cellphone with them. — Sapa
