A fourth man linked to the murder of KwaZulu-Natal historian David Rattray has been arrested, local police said on Wednesday.
Superintendent Phindile Radebe said the 27-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday night at Helpemekaar, near Rattray’s home.
Radebe said the man was apparently hiding at the home of a relative and intensive investigations by the task team led to the arrest. The man is expected to appear in court soon.
Rattray, an Anglo-Zulu War expert, was gunned down at his home at Fugitive’s Lodge in the battlefields tourism area near Dundee in January.
Police are still searching for two more suspects.
Thembinkosi Ndlovu (24) and Sibusiso Fethe Nkwanyana (23) were each sentenced to 25 years in prison in separate trials for shooting Rattray.
In February, 24-year-old Siphiwe Ndlovu was arrested in Nqutu near Dundee in connection with the murder. He has appeared in court and his case was postponed to April 10.
On Tuesday, the David Rattray Foundation was established to carry on with the community work of the world-famous raconteur.
His book, A Soldier Artist in Zululand, completed just before his death, was also launched on Tuesday. – Sapa
