A high-school boy was shot and wounded in a fight between a group of pupils in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, paramedics said on Thursday.
”It is believed that the boy who was shot was a friend of the boy who fired the shot. He got hit in the cross-fire,” Netcare 911 spokesperson Mark Stokoe said.
Stokoe said a group of pupils was fighting outside the Willowcrescent Secondary School at about 1.30pm on Wednesday.
One of them, a 19-year-old, went to his home to get a firearm.
Police spokesperson Captain Lindiwe Mbatha said that when the boy came back, he randomly shot at the group of pupils — wounding one in the thigh and missing another. The wounded teenager was taken to hospital.
The 19-year-old was arrested for attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
She said it was not yet known what had led to the fight between the pupils. — Sapa
