Cricket South Africa announced a provisional 30-man South African squad on Wednesday, from which the final 15-man Proteas squad to play in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) inaugural World Twenty20 South Africa 2007 tournament will be chosen.
Tournament director Steve Elworthy said in a statement: ”The results and individual performances of the various players were taken into account by the selectors and they have put together a competitive, exciting squad that will add to the hype already created around the tournament.
”All 30 provisional squad members have contributed to their teams’ results on the international and domestic fronts.”
The final, 15-man Proteas squad must be submitted to the ICC by August 11 this year.
The World Twenty20 South Africa 2007 tournament starts on September 11 and the final is on Heritage Day, September 24, at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. — Sapa
