German rider Patrick Sinkewitz, who was forced to retire from the Tour de France on Monday, has tested positive for testosterone, the German cycling federation BDR announced on Wednesday.
The BDR said that T-Mobile rider Sinkewitz was caught with an elevated testosterone level at an out-of-competition test on June 8, conducted by the German Anti-Doping Agency.
The BDR said that Sinkewitz has five days to request an examination of the B-sample.
Sinkewitz is expected to be suspended by T-Mobile and faces a two-year ban from competition if found guilty of a doping offence.
Sinkewitz was forced to withdraw from this year’s Tour with a fractured collarbone and other injuries sustained in a collision with a spectator after Sunday’s stage in the Alps. He is currently being treated in a Hamburg hospital. — Sapa-dpa
