Search continues for missing Carletonville miner

The search for a miner who went missing in a rockfall at Driefontein gold mine near Carletonville, continued on Monday, the mine said.

Gold Fields spokesperson Andrew Davidson said the miner had been working in a stope 3 000m underground on Saturday when there was a rockfall following a seismic event measuring 1,5 on the Richter scale.

”Mine rescue teams are engaged in the search for our missing colleague,” he said.

Davidson said four employees had been working in the stope at the time of the accident.

Two of the workers sustained minor lacerations and were treated in hospital. The third employee was not hurt.

All mining activity at the shaft had been suspended, Davidson said. – Sapa
