The estimated consumption of electricity in November 2007 increased by 2,8% compared with November 2006, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Tuesday.
The estimated volume of electricity consumed (available for distribution) for the three months ending November 2007 increased by 3,8% compared with the three months ending November 2006.
Electricity consumption after seasonal adjustment for November 2007 decreased by 0,9%, compared with the previous month, to 20 046 gigawatt-hours.
Stats SA said the estimated production of electricity in November 2007 increased by 3,5% compared with November 2006.
The estimated production of electricity for the three months ending November 2007 increased by 2,9%, compared with the three months ending November 2006.
Furthermore, the estimated production of electricity, after seasonal adjustment, increased by 1,2% for November 2007 compared with the previous month.
Meanwhile, the City of Tshwane is appealing to residents to use electricity sparingly after lightning damaged a transformer at the Pumulani substation.
Spokesperson Console Tleane said on Tuesday that the city was appealing to Pumulani, Montana, Hartebeesfontein, and Zeekoegat residents to use electricity sparingly.
”We are asking them to limit electricity consumption to an absolute minimum,” said Tleane.
The substation was hit by lightning on Monday.
The council was appealing to people to switch off their geysers during the 5pm to 8pm peak times.
”The city’s electricity division is currently busy with tests to determine the extent of the damage in order to plan repair,” said Tleane. — Sapa
