A man trying to outrun police in a stolen tractor was arrested in the Eastern Cape early on Tuesday.
East London police spokesperson Superintendent Mtati Tana said police were told the tractor had been stolen from a farm in the Blue Water area outside East London at about 4am.
”They tracked it down near Beacon Bay turn as it was about to leave the N2 into North-East Expressway into the city,” Tana said.
”They tried to stop the driver but he accelerated. Police fired several warning shots in the direction of the tractor, hitting a tyre.”
The driver jumped down and was taken into custody.
The 32-year-old man had apparently lived on the farm before moving to Beacon Bay.
He is expected to appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on a charge of theft. – Sapa
