Lamontville Golden Arrows and Bidvest Wits drew 2-2 in their Premier Soccer League clash at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on Saturday afternoon.
Wits led 2-1 at half-time.
Abafana Besithende, as Arrows are known, dominated the first 20 minutes of the game and were rewarded in the 10th minute with a Musa Bilankulu headed goal from Vumani Mvundla’s corner.
Striker Abia Nale almost doubled their lead, but his shot went over Moneeb Joseph’s crossbar. However, Arrows let themselves down by conceding two quick goals in the 31st and 36th minutes.
Rantjie’s powerful shot from 12 yards beat Nkosana Maseko in goal for the home side to level matters after receiving a nice cross by Moyo Modise.
Rantjie returned the favour to Modise by supplying him with a fine pass to score the second goal of the afternoon in the 36th minute for the Clever Boys (Wits).
Youngster Modise showed composure with a more clinical finish to beat Maseko with ease. Arrows levelled matters in the 49th minute from the boot of on-form striker Nale after some nice work from substitute Kevin Andzouana.
The visitors, who seemed to settle at the start of the second half, applied more pressure on the Arrows defence and Maseko was well able to block Marawaan Bantam’s strike in the 52nd minute.
In the later stages of the game, both sides failed to score the deciding goal.
Arrows have 32 points from 23 matches. Wits have 34 from the same number of matches. — Sapa
