Seven of the 452 people recently arrested for alleged paramilitary activities in northern KwaZulu-Natal were denied bail in the Mahlabatini Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Police spokesperson Director Phindile Radebe said of the 452 originally arrested, 445 were released on R300 bail each.
It was not immediately clear when they were expected to appear in court again or why the seven had been denied bail.
The group was arrested at the end of August at a training camp called Mlaba near the Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Game Reserve.
The group is charged with contravening the Criminal Law Second Amendment Act of 1992, which prohibits the training of people for ”the conducting of any military, paramilitary or similar operation”.
Those arrested are reported to be part of group called the South African Unintegrated Forces. — Sapa
