Two of the 13 accused in the Jeppestown massacre trial were found guilty in the Johannesburg High Court on Monday.
Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng found Senzo Emmanuel Mweli (26) guilty on charges of aggravated robbery and attempted murder.
Mweli’s co-accused, Nkosinathi Mzamo Mchunu (31), was found guilty on 19 charges, including aggravated robbery, attempted murder and murder.
The murder charges relate to the four police officers who were shot dead during a bloody gun battle in Jeppestown following the June 2006 robbery of the Honeydew Pick n Pay.
Mokgoatlheng said he would deal with charges of possession of firearms and ammunition after handing down judgement against all the accused.
He earlier acquitted the only female accused, Pick n Pay employee Dineo Maleke (29), saying there was not enough evidence linking her to the crime.
Judgment was expected to continue on Tuesday. — Sapa
