Three headless bodies were found in a man’s house in Engcobo on Monday, Eastern Cape police said.
Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela said police made the gruesome find after the man killed a 23-year-old man with a pick-axe in Xhibeni locality at 1pm.
”Community members called the police after they witnessed him kill a man in the street, Fatyela said.
The man was shot in the leg when he tried to attack police with the pick-axe.
”After the arrest we went inside his house and we found the bodies of a 65-year-old man, 34-year-old man and a 37-year-old man lying in one room,” said Fatyela.
Police took the man to a nearby hospital for questioning, but had to move him when community members came looking for him.
”We moved him from the hospital to police custody because community members are angry.
”We are trying to talk to them because they want to take the law into their own hands,” he said.
Police were searching for more bodies at the house.
”We are digging inside and outside the house for more bodies he might have buried. We don’t know the motive behind the killings,” said Fatyela
Police were investigating a case of murder and the man was expected to appear before the Engcobo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. — Sapa
