Applications open for Allan Gray fellowship

Academically gifted grade 12 learners who wish to study commerce, engineering and science still have until June to apply for a fellowship programme facilitated by an investment firm.

Due to a large number of bookings, the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation has extended the opportunity for learners another chance to write the Additional Admission Research Project (AARP) Test, a requirement when applying for the Foundation’s Fellowship Programme. The AARP test measures the candidates abilities in mathematics and English.

The Fellowship Programme aims to develop students, known as Allan Gray Fellows, as South Africa’s future high growth entrepreneurial leaders and lists comprehensive financial support as one of its many benefits.

Successful applicants are provided with access to an extensive entrepreneurship programme that includes full financial support, mentorship, entrepreneurial skills development, training, workshops and work experience. There are no contractual obligations associated with the award.

To qualify for the fellowship applicants should obtain a minimum grade C pass in Grade 12 mathematics, be a citizen of either South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland or Namibia and be committed to studying at a selected number of South African universities.

The 4-Step Application Process
The process starts with interested applicants writing the AARP test before being able to apply. On submission of a completed application form, the foundation will conduct an internal assessment, followed by interviews and ending in a three day entrepreneurship selection camp. Applicants are short-listed at each of the following stages:
1. Applicants send an SMS to book a place to write by 22 May and then write the AARP test on 06 June 2009;
2. Complete and submit an application form – available for download at www.allangrayorbis.org or by phoning 0861 2EXCEL by 30 June 2009
3. Successful applicants are invited to an interview at any of our numerous centres around the country;
4. Successful interviewees are invited to a three day selection camp for comprehensive assessment.
