Former finance minister Trevor Manuel this week came out in support of under-fire Springbok coach Peter de Villiers.
De Villiers has been under the spotlight following recent controversial statements.
In a letter, Manuel criticised Business Day editor Peter Bruce for a comment that De Villiers ”just isn’t up to the job”.
”What matters in sport is the result. Surely what matters in respect of the Springbok coach in this instance is that, unlike so many of his predecessors, he scored a series win against the British and Irish Lions?” wrote Manuel.
