Vorster case postponed to October

The case against a man accused of killing a 12-year-old boy was postponed in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Warren Vorster (35) is accused of shooting Kgopotso Ramolefe, the grandchild of his domestic worker, at his Parkmore home on June 30.

It is alleged that Vorster took out his hunting rifle when he believed there was an intruder on his premises and mistook Ramolefe for a robber.

He was arrested on the same day.

Vorster, a father of two, maintained he had no reason to harm the child.

”I have no reason to harm Kgopotso, I was very fond of the boy,” he said in a statement at an earlier court appearance.

At the bail hearing a statement by a police officer was read out in court.

Inspector Derrick Macintosh said when he arrived at the scene he found Vorster performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the boy, and the hunting rifle lying on the bed.

”He was clearly shaken and very upset,” the officer said.

The domestic worker was employed by the family for four years.

Vorster works in the vehicle branding field and is out on R5 000 bail.

The case was postponed to October 16 for further investigation. — Sapa
