The murder trial of mining boss Brett Kebble will start in the South Gauteng High Court on Wednesday.
State prosecutor Gerrie Nel asked Judge Meyer Joffe on Monday to postpone the trial for two days for it to start before a different judge in courtroom 4A.
It has been rumoured that Judge Kathy Satchwell will preside over the Kebble case.
Joffe is presiding over the Jackie Selebi corruption case and would have had a conflict judging drug-dealer Glenn Agliotti — the only person on trial for Kebble’s murder.
Agliotti, who will be tried for conspiring to commit murder, was a key witness in Selebi’s trial and Joffe must still decide on his credibility.
The four other people closely linked to the Kebble murder — the three alleged assassins Mikey Schultz, Faizel Smith and Nigel McGurk, and Kebble’s former security boss Clint Nassif — were all at court on Monday morning, ready to testify against Agliotti.
Also in court was Kebble’s brother, Guy, and the family’s attorney.
