SA’s new vehicle sales up

South Africa’s total industry new vehicle sales increased by 35,3% year-on-year to 39 176 units in May, the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers (Naamsa) said on Wednesday.

When stripping out sales from Associated Motor Holdings and Amalgamated Automobile Distributors — which report separately — sales rose by 28,6% to 33 182 units compared with May last year, Naamsa said.

Vehicle sales recorded the first annual increase in nearly three years in January, marking a turnaround in a sector which had been hit by depressed demand. — Reuters
