The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said on Monday striking workers at Northam Platinum are expected to return to work on Tuesday following a revised pay rise offer from the company.
“We have agreed with the members to call off the strike now. We are working on an agreement which will be finalised later today [Monday],” NUM’s chief negotiator at Northam, Zwelitsha Tantsi, told Reuters.
He declined to give details of the revised offer until the agreement has been signed.
NUM was demanding a 15% increase and a monthly housing allowance of R3 500.
The workers had earlier rejected Northam’s offer of a 9,5% rise and a housing allowance of R1 750 a month. — Reuters
