Zuma arrives in Mauritania

President Jacob Zuma arrived in Nouakchott, Mauritania on Friday on a working visit to continue discussions for the resolution of Côte d’Ivoire post-election crisis.

“This is President Jacob Zuma’s second visit to Mauritania in his capacity as a member of the African Union High-Level Panel which met last month to discuss and find a solution to the crisis in Côte d’Ivoire,” his spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said in a statement.

The panel would discuss the outcome of their visit to Ivory Coast last month. They met the two leaders at loggerheads in that country.

During Côte d’Ivoire’s presidential election on November 28, challenger and former prime minister Alassane Ouattara was declared winner, having secured 54,1% of the vote over incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo.
