KZN music pick: March 18 2011

Internationally renowned singer, songwriter and guitarist Nibs van der Spuy performs two live shows in Pietermaritzburg this weekend.

Van der Spuy has been touring the world with his brand
of insightful acoustic guitar mastery and poignant lyrics over the past 4 years with his steady release of albums building up some serious critical acclaim across the world. Speaking of van der Spuy’s A Bird In The Hand, influential German music magazine Jazzthetic declared that ‘Nibs van der Spuy may well have succeeded in creating a future classic of the genre” before awarding the album a rare 5/5 review. Known for his nuanced blend of an impressive range of folk styles including bluegrass, Celtic, maskandi, roots, blues and more, van der Spuy is currently promoting his new album A House Across The River and live DVD Live at the Vagabond Café.
