Canadian gold and uranium producer First Uranium said on Friday it has resumed underground operations at its Ezulwini gold mine in Gauteng.
A temporary work stoppage instruction was issued on March 12 by the Department of Mineral Resources, pending investigations after a worker died in fall of ground.
The company said all mining operations resumed on Thursday night, with the exception of the bord and pillar section where the accident occurred.
“Mining within the bord and pillar section will resume early next week after the retraining of that section’s mining teams, in modified support standards, has been conducted,” First Uranium said in a statement.
In the bord and pillar mining method, material is mined horizontally, leaving support pillars of untouched material. — Reuters
