INVITATION TO NOMINATE AN EXPERT
FOR APPOINTMENT TO THE DISPUTE
COMMITTEE OF THE GOVERNMENT
EMPLOYEES MEDICAL SCHEME (GEMS)
In terms of Rule 22.3 of the GEMS Rules, the
Board of Trustees of the Government Employees
Medical Scheme (“the Board”) may appoint a
Committee consisting of such Trustees and other
experts as it may deem appropriate.
A Dispute Committee, consisting of three
independent professionals, was established by the
Board to adjudicate on disputes lodged against
the Scheme by complainants. The Committee’s
responsibilities include, inter alia, advising the Board on dispute resolution generally; recommending a dispute hearing procedure to the Board from time to time for the Board’s approval; independently considering and presiding over any dispute referred by the Principal Officer of GEMS to the Dispute Committee for adjudication in accordance with the dispute hearing procedure approved by the Board; and conducting its activities within the confines of the Medical Schemes Act, other applicable legislation and the registered Rules of the Scheme. Nominations are called for suitable candidates with legal skills and expertise to serve on the Dispute Committee of the Government Employees Medical Scheme.
