Jo’burg festival pick: September 2 2011

Believe it or not, there is something called Jo’burg Day.

A perusal of the internet doesn’t dredge up who, exactly, decided that the city needed its own day and what the benefits may be. But one assumes that, as with any terminal patient, Jo’burg needs to be celebrated for almost surviving its illnesses. Well, Jo’burg Day is upon us and, thanks to 94.7 Highveld Stereo and Santam, you can celebrate the metropolis on September 3 at Soccer City, outside Soweto, with the multitudes. Some of the artists who will be performing include Prime Circle, Freshlyground, Locnville, Liquideep, the Parlotones, La Vuvuzela (featuring Tarryn Lamb), Goodluck, Zebra and Giraffe, Lira, Elvis Blue and Danny K.

Soccer City, Nasrec Road, Nasrec, on September 3. Tickets cost R210 for adults, R300 in the golden circle and R80 for children between three and 12. Parking costs R50. Tickets can be bought from Computicket. For more information visit www.highveld.co.za.
