Catch rapper Lil Wayne during his worldwide I Am Still Music tour.
At his peak — from the December 2005 release of Tha Carter II through to 2008’s Tha Carter III — Lil Wayne was said to be the “best rapper alive”, earning cred on both the streets and the charts. Then he was jailed for eight months on gun charges, which was followed by a duo of flops — Rebirth and the “unfocused”, “stop-gap” collection I Am Not a Human Being.
So is Weezy just the latest in a number of musicians past their sell-by dates who have graced our shores? Not if the high praise coming to him from the guest artists on his latest album, Tha Carter IV, is anything to go by.
Coca-Cola Dome, North Riding, on December 9 at 8pm. Ticket prices range from R400 to R750. Book at Computicket.
