An on-song world number four Great Britain did everything but beat world number three Germany in a vital Pool B match at the London Cup in Chiswick.
The the outcome of Germany’s 2-1 win is that the South Africa women’s hockey team will meet world number one Holland in the first semifinal at 3.30pm on Saturday.
The earlier match saw Holland beat Ireland 5-1 to win Pool A.
The second semifinal will see Germany against world number seven Australia, second in Pool B, at 6pm South Africa time.
Whether South Africa reach the final or not, Sunday’s gold medal match will be live at 5pm South Africa time.
Should South Africa not make the final, they will contest for the bronze medal on Sunday.
