Nigerian Prince Disillusioned By Hostile Internet

A Nigerian prince desperately trying to get a $50-million inheritance released from a London bank said he had lost faith in humanity after appealing to people on the internet to help him.

Crown Prince Pianola Andabanjo is offering $1-million to any person who will send him their bank details to help him to unfreeze the funds owed to him. But, he said, the response from the world's  internet users had been "incredibly disillusioning".

"I've sent literally millions of emails asking for help, but nobody replies and thousands of people have accused me of sending them spam," he said.

"Which is outrageous as I am a devout Muslim and I would never send anyone a tin of non-Halaal meat."

Pianola said he was taught by his father, King Itsebola Andathrombo, to be honest and direct with strangers.

But, he said, the response had shaken the foundations of his sunny and outgoing nature.

"All I want is to give someone $1-million, pocket the other $49-million, and carry on thinking the best of people," he said.

"But when this happens, you just think: Why do I bother?"

However, he said, he had learned an important lesson. "The internet is full of nasty people and you can really get hurt if you don't know what you are doing."
