"Jacaranda FM announced today [Monday] that is has terminated its contract with presenter Miguel Proenca with immediate effect," spokesperson Masego Serape said in a statement.

She said there had been an inquiry after allegations that money collected for a 10-year-old cancer sufferer had gone missing.

Station general manager Kevin Fine said: "We have elected to terminate the contract immediately with Proenca, after due consideration of the evidence obtained during the inquiry."

Proenca collected money and charitable donations on behalf of Reneilwe Mashego from Bushbuckridge in November last year as part of Jacaranda's involvement in the project.

Earlier this year, he reportedly gave R300, three blankets, and some clothing items to Reneilwe's grandmother Cornelia Mashego.

But it was not clear what had happened to several prizes donated by businesses in the city, including electronic equipment worth R9 000 donated by Makro, and two R5 000 gift vouchers donated by Spar Lowveld.

Serape said Jacaranda FM would deal directly with other parties affected by the allegations.

"There will be stand-in presenters on Jacaranda Regional (RMFM) between 12pm and 4pm weekdays and Saturdays, until a full-time replacement is to be announced." – Sapa
